Rajiv Kumar, IAS officer (retd.) and Former Finance Secretary was appointed as the Election Commissioner with effect from August 31, 2020. He succeeds Ashok Lavasa who resigned the position to join as Vice- President of Asia Development Bank. He will be working alongside other Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra. He is currently serving as chairperson of Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) from 29 April, 2020 which was set to end on 28 April 2023.

Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has named Mohamed Ould Bilal as the 16th Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on August 06, 2020. Mohamed Ould Bilal belongs to the political party of Union for the Republic (UPR). He has served as Political Advisor and headed several state agencies. Luis Rodolfo Abinader has been sworn in as the 54th President of Dominican Republic. Luis Rodolfo Abinader is a businessman who has never held any other elected office. Abinader’s Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) won the elections with 53% vote, while Gonzalo Castillo who was the candidate of the ruling PLD got 37.7%. The capital and currency of Dominican Republic are Santo Domingo & Dominican Peso respectively.

Keith Rowley sworn in as Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for a 2nd consecutive 5-year term at the President’s House, following victory in general elections held on August 10, 2020. He is from the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM). The capital and currency of Trinidad and Tobago are Port of Spain & Trinidad and Tobago dollar respectively.

Francisco Asue was reappointed as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and He was sworn in at the People’s Palace in Malabo before President Teodoro Obiang on 18th August 2020. The capital and currency of Equatorial Guinea are Malabo & Central African CFA franc respectively.

Hassan Diab, Lebanon (Republic of Lebanon) Prime Minister (PM) and his government resigned due to public outrage and the pressure from within his own Cabinet as his government was blamed for the August 4 explosion in Beirut’s port which killed at least 160 people and injured about 6,000 others. Michel Aoun, Lebanon President accepted his resignation letter and asked him to stay on in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet was formed.

Ibrahim Boubacar Keita
Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita announced his resignation with immediate effect following a military mutiny in the Republic of Mali. Boubacar represents the Political Party Rally for Mali (RPM) and has served as the sixth Prime Minister of Mali from 1994-2000.
Shinzo Abe (65), Prime Minister of Japan announced his resignation owing to his worsening health condition due to ulcerative colitis. Shinzo Abe of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was the longest serving Prime Minister of Japan.

The Board of Directors of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) accepted the resignation of its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rajiv Srivastava. He was relieved from his position as MD & CEO with immediate effect from 24th August 2020.
