RRB ALP 2018: The RRB ALP Technician CBT examinations were held online in 440 centres spread over the country. The first stage of RRB ALP Technician CBT examinations were held from August 9, 2018 to September 4, 2018, in which a total of over 36 lakh (36,47,541) candidates appeared.

RRB ALP | Overview

As mentioned , the RRB ALP exam is conducted in four stages:

  1. First Stage CBT,
  2. Second Stage CBT (which has two parts – Part A and Part B),
  3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT),
  4. Document Verification.

RRB ALP Result 2018 will be declared separately for each of these stages and only those candidates who clear a certain stage will be eligible to appear in the next stage.

Important Highlights of RRB ALP First Stage CBT

  • CBT stands for computer-based test, this is the first phase of the recruitment process, 
  • The paper contains 75 objective type questions (MCQs) and total time given to complete the paper is 60 minutes
  • Each question in the paper in all sections carries one mark
  • Negative marking for every wrong answer will be of 1/3 mark
  • No negative marking for unattempted questions

Important Highlights of RRB ALP Second Stage CBT

  • There are two parts in this stage, candidates have to qualify these two parts separately
  • Total number of questions asked in this stage is 175
  • There are sectional timings for Part A and Part B, 90 minutes and 60 minutes respectively, the total time allotted for the Second Stage of CBT is two and a half hours.
  • There is negative marking for incorrect answers, ⅓ mark will be deducted for every wrong answer


  • This is the third stage of the selection process, however, only those who applied for Assistant Loco Pilot need to appear for this stage
  • There will be five test batteries, candidates have to score at least 42 in each test battery
  • Questions will be asked in English and Hindi as well
